busy busy working bee

that is me.
managed one dive since i got here. been snorkelling though with one of our volonteers yesterday and today, she's the only snorkeller we have for the moment so i want to make sure she feels involved.
monday is the staffs day off, but not for me, i'm going into semporna for grocery shopping.
think my visa run to bali is going to be so so very very needed and nice, look forward to end of june.

i still don't have a good feeling hanging with the western staff and volonteers at dinner etc, i normally eat with our malay staff instead. they are reallt friendly and make you feel very welcome and on top of that they have good work ethics, even better then some of our western staff and interns.

i've stopped trying being friends with staff and interns, since that clearly didn't work, so now i'm a nagging bitch instead. the strange thing is that some of the volonteers work more and ask if there is anything they can do compared to some of the staff and interns.
i'll continue with micro managing and keep track on who's doing what and then have a follow up meeting one on one.

i have started to practice freediving though by myself, not deep at all but starting in shallow to swim down and take photo

Spectacular snorkelling today

Took an hour off from working today and went snorkelling with one of our volonteers, wow, it's not just fish, turtles and corals it's also all these amazing jellylike things that are so beautiful if you look closer.

My little palace is getting better and better, I now have a proper spring matress which I will try out tonight.
We don't have electricity in our tents yet but luckily the nights are somewhat cool.

Really miss my sister Cizzi, mum and dad and the wonderful people from Koh Tao and New Heaven Dive School, guess what they say is true, there's no place like home, and I have two, Sweden and Koh Tao.

Pom Pom, busy busy days

I've been really busy on Pom Pom since I arrived. I've been unpackning and painting the kitchen cupards, organisation all the stuff needing for cooking, scrubbing toilets etc etc. It's been nonstop work from sunrise to after sunset.
Still loads at rebuilding camp to do, but not much I have the skills to do. On Tuesday we're going into town and then I'll make sure that we stock up on groceries properly.
We still dont have running water in the showers or bathrooms, you have to carry buckets with you. I'm taking my bucket shower in the toilet casue thats the only place where they've put in a new flooring. We also don't have a freezer so meat is kept on ice only, so far so good...
Drinking water we boil from the well but the taste is pretty strange.
Wednesday we have a big group of 8 people arriving, that will make things interesting.

I did go diving today and it was very nice with a break from work.

Unfortunately we have a lot of flies, mosquites and other biting things so I'm very itchy. Luckily (knock on wood) there is no dengue or malaria on Pom Pom :)
I'll try and see if coconut oil will help to deter the nasty buggers, and of course mosquito spray.

I did get my palace of a tent up yesterday, it is wonderful, can't wait to furnice it :) Waiting for my dresser which will come from KK in a few weeks, and the boys will build me a proper bed so I sleep better, and I will buy myself a real matress.
Also getting a chair and a table to have a work area in my tent, it is two rooms :)

Sorry I cant write more but it's getting late and I want a shower beofre it's totally dark :)

Kota Kinabalu

The plan was that I was leving for Pom Pom yesterday, but that chnaged a few days ago so for the moment I will be leaving on the night bus to Semporna on Wednesday instead.
I don't mind though, KK is a great city. But I do look forward going to Pom Pom and see how the rebuild is progressing.
Saturday I went crazy shopping for all stuff we need on Pom Pom for kitchen, showers and bathrooms. I do think I remebered to get everything we need as a start, at least I know the kitchen will be very well equipped with everything you might need for cooking.
I was really grateful to have Kathy driving me.
When I get to Pom Pom I'll do a recon to see how far the guys have come and then try and organise and prioritise for them so that the important stuff get done first.

I have also bought myself a bigger tent that will hopefully give me more of a home feeling as soon as it has been set up. I'll definately need help setting it up though, it's two meters high :) Also got myself a more powerful fan, and hanging thingy for clothes that I will have to set up in same way, but I will sort that out when the tent is up. Also when the tent is up and I see how it looks I plan on getting a proper bed and matress and bedding and also if there is room a folding table and chair where I can do work and watch movies. Trying to make my bed a place for only sleeping, hopefully that can help me sleep a bit better.
I have been catching up on a lot of sleep here in KK, been really nice to get solid sleep during the nights. This time I'm staying at The Klagan hotel, very friendly staff and perfectly situated close to the waterfront.

Apart from shopping I've been enjoying walks around town, great food and drinks.

All in all, everythings good, even if I'm a bit stressed of how the next couple of weeks will look until we have Pom Pom camp up and running perfectly to make new volonteers stay as comfortable as possible.

Don't have much photos but of course food and sunset :)
